As a doula, I accompany and support women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience.  My interest in this work began in 1986 with the birth of my first child.  At the heart of my work as a Doula is over twenty years of mindfulness practice in Zen meditation and Hatha Yoga.  In 2010 I completed my nursing training at UC San Francisco, and am a licensed Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. I have taught Childbirth Preparation and Newborn Care classes in the Great Expectations program at UCSF, and am currently training to teach Mindfulness-based Childbirth Preparation with CNM Nancy Bardacke. While raising my two children, I served families by co-founding a Waldorf-inspired preschool in Corte Madera (The Mountain School), teaching, and as administrator of the Greenwood School in Mill Valley. I trained as a doula/labor support person at Natural Resources in San Francisco, where I completed trainings in labor massage, HypnoBirthing, CPR, acupressure and other labor comfort methods.  I am the mother of two daughters (aged 24 and 12), both born naturally in the hospital, attended by midwives.

I draw on this knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and guidance, and, as needed, communication with the medical staff to ensure you have the information you need to make informed decisions during labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning, and other techniques for comfort.
