Why Aurora Birth?

When it came time to decide on a name for my daughter, once Aurora came to us, we knew that was it.  Aurora is the first light of dawn, the sacred time of morning when the sun first shines its rays upon the Earth, bringing new life and rejuvenation.  We named our daughter Aurora in the spirit of the sacred renewal of life.

The birth and life of Aurora inspired me to support birthing women as they bring forth new life and themselves transform, becoming mothers.  Aurora is a wonderful description of this metamorphosis - each day the sun rising is both perfectly normal and absolutely miraculous, very much like birth of a baby and birth of a mother and family.  In honor of my inspiration (my daughter), and of miraculous new beginnings, I decided to name my birth services Aurora Birth.

I am a certified doula and childbirth educator serving the East Bay.  It's been a journey to get here!  I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a B.A. in History, and later earned my Masters in Education at Stanford and began teaching high school.

And that's when Aurora changed everything!  I loved being pregnant, and began to read voraciously about birth and child rearing.  I was officially hooked!  I birthed my baby at home with a midwife, and was amazed by the intensity of the experience of birth.  After birthing my daughter, I felt so powerful, feeling how amazing it is to bring forth new life, to feel such a deep and profound love that gave me new eyes with which to see the world.  I felt a new found respect for women and mothers and became more and more inspired and in awe of birth as a rite of passage for women. This respect only deepened with the birth of my son, born at home in 2011.

In 2009, I decided to put my passion into action by becoming a doula, and in 2010 studied to become a childbirth educator. I am grateful for being called to this work, and feel honored and privileged to be a part of a woman and family's journey into parenthood, whether it be as an educator or doula.
