I am a Birth and Postpartum Doula (DONA) and a Lamaze-trained Childbirth Educator, with a BA in Anthropology and an MFA in Creative Writing.  I first became passionate about the birth process 20 years ago when I attended the homebirths of my godchildren, which then led to supporting other friends and friends of friends with their births, long before I had any awareness of doula work as a profession.

In addition to my training and birth experience both professionally and personally (I have two girls, born in '95 and '98), I bring considerable life experience to birth work: a 25+ year yoga and distance/chi running practice; over 25 years in various professional settings--from wilderness guide/instructor to professional writer and teacher and nonprofit consultant; as well as a lifelong interest in holistic health practices.

My approach to birth work is very much tied to my intimate and lifelong involvement with the natural world and the creative imagination, both of which have taught me much about the miraculous lifeforce in all of us.  My practice is designed to offer a full range of support before, during and after birth because 1) I love all aspects of the childbirth process (!); and 2) because as someone who’s been through many of the ups and downs of motherhood, I firmly believe that building relationships and community are key to having a positive experience and I want to support that process. I am deeply committed to (and very excited about) supporting birthing women (and their partners if they have one) achieve the birth experience they envision for themselves. As a Postpartum Doula I love
providing a wide array of customized support, nurturance, and evidence-based information during the ""4th trimester"", so that you and your family feel confident, rested, and skilled to ""fly solo"" when the time comes.  I provide services throughout the Bay Area, and am comfortable supporting laboring women in all birth settings.
